Going for gold: Taylor Swift kicked off her Speak Now world tour in Omaha, Nebraska tonight looking stunning in a gold fringed dress and knee high black boots
She is one of American music's shining lights, with her platinum-selling albums and a stash of awards to her name.
So it was perhaps fitting that 21-year-old Taylor Swift sported a striking golden fringed dress on the first date of her Speak Now world tour tonight.
The 21-year-old singer teamed her fringed mini dress with a pair of knee-high black boots as she kicked off her most elaborate tour yet in Omaha, Nebraska.
The star also returned to a past habit of writing on herself for live shows, this time seeming to scrawl a lyric along her arm in black pen.
Backed by a nine-piece band and eight dancers, the singer played for two hours, changing costume several times as she performed songs from hit albums Fearless and Speak Now.
Fun times: The 21-year-old singer looked like she was enjoying herself as she played a cherry red guitar and sung to the enthusiastic crowd
Earlier, she had told People.com how she helped plan the theatrical looking show, which includes pyrotechnics and a fake snowstorm.
'The tour is exactly how my imagination looks and I'm so excited that we get to have these entire scenes created on stage,' she said.
'I started out in theatre so you definitely see influences of that.'
Skin graffiti: Taylor wrote what looked like lyrics on her arms in black pen for the show
'We get to have such groovy, cool stuff happening,' she added to MTV about the stadium-based show. 'I've never had pyro before. I've never had aerialists before.
It's got this grand staircase. The stage in itself looks like an old-world theatre.
'I can't believe we get to play stadiums. I'm so excited about this tour. I want to live on that stage. I hope people leave the concert feeling like they know you better.'
The star also said she saw the tour as a 'thank you' to her fans, who made Speak Now one of the most successful albums of last year.
American sweetheart: Taylor revealed she has had a lot of input into the theatrical tour
'That's why I'm so blown away. That's why I can't wait to go out on tour and thank them personally,' she said.
And she certainly seemed to enjoy tonight's show, tweeting after her performance: 'Woah Omaha. That first show was SO much fun and I can't wait to see you again tomorrow!!'
