It's my throat: Cher Lloyd was struggling with nerves... and tonsilitis as she performed during the judges' houses stage of this year's X Factor
She is without doubt the bookies' favourites to win this year's X Factor.
But it all proved too much for Cher Lloyd as she collapsed under the pressure on this year's X Factor.
The teen broke down sobbing as she performed for Cheryl Cole during the judges' houses stage of the show.
And while many had assumed she would sail through to the live performances, her failure to perform has left her future in doubt.
Horrified: Cheryl Cole and Will.I.Am watched aghast as the girls broke down
Cher's anxious behaviour at bootcamp had already sparked worries about whether she would be able to cope in the competition.
And the worries continued when the 16-year-old began complaining of a sore throat hours before her performance in front of Cheryl and her friend, record producer Will.I.Am.
Then, barely a few bars into her song, Cher began to break down, speaking the words rather than singing.
Soon she had stopped.
Cheryl gave her a hug, dried her tears, and encouraged her to have another go.
Comfort: Cheryl rushed to hug Cher, her favourite
Ended her chances? But Cher refuses to try again
But Cher couldn't cope, stopping moments into the song.
'Do you want to come back later?' asked a concerned Cheryl.
But Cher whispered: 'I'm done now, I'm done,' before turning and walking out.
Will.i.am tried to put himself into her shoes.
'Wow, I'm trying.. I'm 16 years old.'
Walking out: Cher declined Cheryl's offer to try again
Cher wasn't the only one of the girls to feel the pressure.
Katie Waissel also broke down halfway through her song, telling Cheryl: 'I'm so sorry, it's an emotional song for me and this is my last shot for you guys so can I just take a breath, I'm sorry.'
Cheryl gave Katie another chance, but her voice quivered as she continued the song.
After she left, Black Eyed Peas star Will told Cheryl: 'She messed that up.
'She sings good, she just f-ed that one up.'
Cheryl was unimpressed, shaking her head and telling him: 'She's a drama queen.'
She had earlier cautioned: 'I think she's one of those people that's going to divide opinion.'
Devastated: Katie realises she may have ruined up her chances as she talks to Dermot O'Leary
The histrionics of the two left Cheryl doubting their futures.
In the other categories, Dannii Minogue was impressed when Paije sand True Colours, saying: 'For me he's the only one who knows who he is in the competition.'
In the over-28s, Wagner made an impression on Sharon Osbourne, telling host Dermot O'Leary she had 'beautiful eyes.'
Over in Spain, the groups got some last-minute advice from Cowell, who told them he was looking for someone who can 'sell records in the real world'.
Belle Amie impressed him with their version of George Michael's Faith but it was FYD who impressed Sinitta.
Breaking down: Katie Waissel started crying during her performance, but an unsympathetic Cheryl labelled her a 'drama queen'
The final 12 will be announced on Sunday's X Factor, 7.45pm on ITV.
