Get me out of here: Nadal suffered a shock loss
Rafael Nadal suffered a rare defeat in the Thailand Open semi-finals yesterday losing
2-6, 7-6, 6-3 to Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.
Garcia-Lopez, ranked 53, became only the seventh player to beat Nadal in 2010, stunning his fellow Spaniard with an impressive string of winners. Nadal said: ‘It’s a difficult loss to accept. I had chances to break and didn’t take them.’
The world No1 had played Garcia-Lopez twice and not dropped a set. He won the first here, but took just two of 26 break points.
Garcia-Lopez will play Jarkko Nieminen today and said: ‘This is the best victory in my career.’
