Star guest: Robert Pattinson delights an excitable studio audience when he appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno yesterday
British heartthrob, Robert Pattinson, delighted the NBC studio audience last night when he made a guest appearance on the Jay Leno Show and revealed how he recently climbed into an elephant's mouth.
Talking about his experience of filming his new movie, Water for Elephants, Rob explained how he and his co-star, Reese Witherspoon, spent a lot of time with elephants on set.
The 24-year-old admitted that he now feels so relaxed around the enormous creatures that he even got in one's mouth.
Elephant Man: Rob hangs happily from the mouth of Thai the female elephant
‘The first time I met Thai the elephant, I just got in her mouth. It just seemed like a good place to be!’ he said.
He added: ‘She had these huge lips and her teeth were all the way at the back so she just carried me around!’
Slipping between a British and an American accent, the Twilight star looked slightly awkward in a charcoal grey 2-piece suit paired with an open-collar brown shirt and matching brown shoes.

But R-Patz fans in the audience were by no means put-off and were clearly won over by his boyish Brit charm and comedy tales from filming his new movie.
He explained that in one scene, Reese, 35, needed to perform a few circus tricks with one of the enormous beasts. He explained: ‘Reese ended up under the elephant who then went back on it’s hind legs and let out the most incredible fart directly in Reese's face for a good 45 seconds.’
Laughing hysterically, he added: ‘But it shows Reese's complete commitment to do the job because she just stood there and took it. And the elephant's got a big a**e!’
Special gift: Jay Leno hands Rob his favourite type of beef jerky as a thank you gift for appearing on the show

The experience had clearly did nothing to put the young actor off the wild creatures though as he later exclaimed: ‘I’d love to be an elephant!’
Speaking about one animal he wasn’t in such a huge rush to get in the mouth of, he confessed that he was close to losing his nerve during a recent photo shoot with an alligator for the latest issue of Vanity Fair magazine.
The sexy star, the best known for playing a blood-sucking vampire, admitted he wasn’t terribly confident about having the fierce creature wrapped around his shoulders.
Happy host: Jay Leno shares a joke with his movie star guest, Robert Pattinson
He nervously said: ‘A shoot like that takes about 30 seconds, that’s how long you’ve got when you’re holding a live alligator.’
Towards the end of his interview, Rob confessed that he had recently developed a fondness for beef jerky and had virtually lived on nothing but the dried meat snack while shooting the movie.
Jay Leno then pulled out an enormous vacuum-packed bag of Rob’s favourite beef jerky, which the show had arranged to have sent over from Texas straight to the studio earlier that day.
The young actor was clearly delighted as he took the huge packet off Jay and joked: ‘Wow, that’s a big bag! This will last me, gosh I don’t know, probably about 15 minutes!’
